Ján Pernecký and Ján Tóth created the Grasshopper tool at Subdigital. Jan develops and maintains Monoceros 3.

The Monoceros story

H.U.R.B.A.N. Selector / 2019–2020

Geometry developer

Jan developed geometry functionality with lead developer Ján Tóth and developer Ondrej Slinták at Subdigital. The software collaboration with the Slovak Design Center’s Inolab explored hybridisation of three-dimensional models.

Ján Pernecký

Architect, software developer and educator specialising in computational design.

Jan has developed Grasshopper tools for around 17 years. With Ján Tóth, he created Monoceros to use Wave Function Collapse for assembling architectural designs from individual parts.

He co-founded Subdigital, developed computational methods for architectural practice and established rese arch as an education platform. He develops design software and teaches architects how to use it.

Teaching and supervision includes UCL Bartlett, IAAC, the University of Toronto, and the Academy of Architecture Amsterdam. He curated the Slovak and Czech Pavilion at the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale.

Hugo Fekar

Architect working with computational design and digital fabrication.

Hugo graduated in architecture from UMPRUM in Prague in 2025. His work combines architectural design, parametric modelling and digital fabrication.

He works with Grasshopper, 3D scanning and robotic fabrication, and explores the use of AI in design. His professional experience includes parametric modelling and architectural visualisation with PORA Studio.

At Monoceros, he develops and tests design methods, studies how parts fit together and presents the process through models and images.

Our work

We develop our tools through our own projects and work with other teams. Courses and workshops cover both the software and the design decisions involved in using it.

Ján Pernecký and Ján Tóth created Monoceros at Subdigital. Its users have since taken it into their own studies and experiments, with author credits on each project.

We work with design teams worldwide on custom software, design methods and AI workflows, alongside our own architectural research.
