Who we are

This website is operated by yknot s. r. o., Ovocna 20, 92101 Piestany, Slovak Republic ("we", "us", "our"). We are the data controller for your personal data processed through this website.

What data we collect

Website analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-KDLFPELGCL) and Facebook Pixel to understand how visitors use our website. These services collect:

  • Pages visited and time spent on pages
  • Referring website or search terms
  • Browser type, screen resolution, and operating system
  • Approximate geographic location (country/city level, not precise)
  • Device type (desktop, mobile, tablet)

This data is collected using cookies and similar technologies. You can opt out by declining cookies when prompted, or by using your browser's cookie settings.

First-party website analytics (cookieless)

Separately from the cookie-based services above, every page load sends one signal to our own server so we can count visitors without relying on a third party. It sets no cookie, so it also runs for visitors who decline cookies. For each visitor and day we record one entry with:

  • A visitor hash: a one-way keyed hash of your IP address and browser User-Agent. The IP address itself is never stored. The key does not change, so the same browser on the same network gives the same hash on different days. The hash is therefore pseudonymous personal data, not anonymous data.
  • Your country, as a 2-letter code derived from your IP address by our web host's server or by a local database on our server.

No cookie is set, no session is created, and no page content or precise location is collected. We use these records only to count daily and monthly visitors and delete them after about 13 months. Legal basis: legitimate interest (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).

Grasshopper plugin analytics

The Monoceros 3 Grasshopper plugin collects anonymous usage data to help us understand how the software is used and to guide product improvements. The following data is collected:

  • Session frequency and duration
  • EULA acceptance
  • Component usage and error rates
  • Solver performance metrics (module, rule, and slot counts; solve duration; result type)
  • License tier, Rhino version, operating system, and plugin version
  • Country of use, derived from your IP address - the IP address itself is never stored

All data is associated with a random anonymous identifier (UUID) that cannot be linked to your identity. This analytics identifier is separate from the device identifier used for license validation, ensuring that analytics data cannot be linked to your license email. No project data, geometry, file names, or personal information is collected. Legal basis: legitimate interest (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).

To determine country of use, our server looks up your IP address in a local database. The IP address is not sent to any other service. Only the resulting country code is stored; the IP address is never persisted.

You can opt out of plugin analytics at any time by creating an empty file at %LOCALAPPDATA%\monoceros\analytics_optout (Windows) or ~/.local/share/monoceros/analytics_optout (macOS), or by setting the environment variable MONOCEROS_NO_ANALYTICS=1.

You may request access to or deletion of analytics data associated with your anonymous identifier by contacting info@monoceros.tools.

Newsletter and waitlist

If you sign up for our newsletter or workshop waitlist, we collect your email address. This is processed by Buttondown, our email service provider. We use your email address solely to send you updates about workshops, courses, and Monoceros news. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.

Inquiry forms

If you submit a workshop inquiry or contact form, we collect the information you provide (typically name, email, institution or company, and your message). Our server sends each submission to us by email, and it is kept in our mailbox. It is not stored in a database on the website. We use this information solely to respond to your inquiry.

To protect the forms from spam, our server checks each submission. If it rejects a submission as spam, it writes the date and time, the reason, your IP address, name, email address and at most the first 120 characters of your message to a log on our server, so that a message rejected by mistake can be found and answered. Each time the server writes a new entry, it deletes the entries older than 90 days. To limit repeated submissions, the server also keeps a one-way hash of your IP address for each submission that passes these first checks. It deletes the hashes older than one hour when a later submission reaches the same check, so without further submissions a hash can stay longer. If we enable Cloudflare Turnstile bot protection on the forms, your IP address and a Turnstile check token are also sent to Cloudflare to confirm that the submission comes from a person. Legal basis: legitimate interest (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).

Download counters

The archive and examples pages count downloads once per visitor per day for each file. For this, our server keeps your IP address together with the date of the download, in a separate record for the archive and for each example file. Older records of a file are deleted at the first download of that same file on a later day, so they stay until that file is downloaded again. Legal basis: legitimate interest (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).

Software licensing

If you purchase a Monoceros 3 license through Gumroad, your payment and account data is processed by Gumroad according to their privacy policy. We receive your name and email address to manage your license.

How we use your data

We use personal data for these purposes only:

  • To understand website usage and improve our content (analytics)
  • To send workshop and product updates you have subscribed to (newsletter)
  • To respond to your inquiries (contact forms)
  • To manage software licenses (purchases)
  • To protect the forms and download counters from abuse (spam log, rate limits)

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for their marketing purposes.

Third-party services

We use the following third-party services that may process your data:

  • Google Analytics (Google LLC, USA) - website analytics. Privacy policy
  • Facebook Pixel (Meta Platforms, Inc., USA) - measuring visits and the effect of our ads, and building audiences for our ads on Meta's platforms. Loaded only after you accept cookies. Privacy policy

  • Gumroad - license sales. Privacy policy
  • Cloudflare Turnstile (Cloudflare, Inc., USA) - bot protection for the forms, only if we enable it; it then receives your IP address and a check token. Privacy policy

Where these services transfer data outside the European Economic Area, they rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards.

Your rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate personal data
  • Request deletion of your personal data
  • Object to or restrict processing of your personal data
  • Data portability (receive your data in a structured format)
  • Withdraw consent at any time (without affecting prior processing)

To exercise any of these rights, email info@monoceros.tools. We will respond within 30 days.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Slovak data protection authority (Urad na ochranu osobnych udajov Slovenskej republiky) or your local supervisory authority.

Data retention

  • Analytics data: retained according to Google Analytics and Facebook default retention periods (up to 14 months)
  • First-party website analytics: pseudonymous daily records (keyed visitor hash and country) retained for about 13 months, then deleted
  • Plugin analytics data: retained for as long as it is useful for improving the software; you may request deletion at any time
  • Newsletter subscriptions: retained until you unsubscribe
  • Inquiry form submissions: retained in our mailbox for up to 2 years, then deleted
  • Spam log of rejected form submissions: 90 days; older entries are deleted when the next rejected submission is logged
  • Form rate-limit records (IP address hash): one hour; older hashes are deleted when a later form submission reaches the rate-limit check
  • Download counter records (IP address and date): kept separately for the archive and for each example file, until the first download of that same file on a later day
  • License purchase records: retained as required by Slovak tax law (10 years for accounting records)

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
