Monoceros · The method / Discrete assembly
Discrete assembly
This approach builds a design from individual parts. The architect or designer defines their geometry, connection rules and the brief the resulting space must meet.
See how the parts connect.
Every arrangement uses the same parts and connection rules. Generate another result and compare where the tubes join.

- 01
Define the parts
Model each part and define how it will be used in the kit.
- 02
Define the connection rules
Specify which faces can connect and how parts meet the boundary.
- 03
Generate and check
Run the solver and check the result against your rules.
- 04
Evaluate the design
Evaluate the result against the brief. Adjust the parts or rules where needed and generate another variation.
Checking the result
The solver checks the connection rules. Comfort, circulation, fabrication and other requirements need separate assessment.
Decide which requirements can be defined in the rules or checked in software, and which need design judgement. Record what you checked when evaluating the result.

Combining Monoceros with other tools
Monoceros can assemble the parts while custom scripts prepare its inputs or process the result. The tools work from a shared parts catalogue and agreed project checks.
In Sitting Islands, Monoceros arranges the seats while custom scripts plan people and backrests. Courtyard Kit uses paired connectors to keep each shape intact. The project descriptions explain what each tool does.

in Monoceros.
The Grasshopper plug-in uses Wave Function Collapse. It selects an allowed part and updates the options in neighbouring grid cells, repeating until one option remains in each cell. If a cell has no allowed option, the run has reached a contradiction and may need another attempt.
A complete arrangement satisfies the connection rules you defined. That does not establish that it meets every requirement of the project. A run can also end without a result.
